Topic: How to greet classmates and introduce oneself on the first day of class
Objectives:
Students will be able to greet and introduce each other on the first day of class
Students will comprehend and be able to use the phrase "Please to meet you"
using the appropriate gender.
If time permits, students will learn to greet each other appropriate in the morning,
afternoon, and evening (Buenos días. Buenas tardes. Buenas noches.) Simple clock
drawn on the board to indicate appropriate times.
Presentation: (2 minutes)
I will enter the room and say Good morning and invite students to repeat the
greeting. (Buenos días.)
I will introduce myself "
Me llamo ...." point to my name tag and repeat the phrase
several times.
I will approach a student (female), introduce myself and ask her name, ¿Cómo te
llamas? If student does not respond, I will again introduce myself ... Me llamo and
ask her name. I will approach another student (male) introduce myself, and ask
his name.
Whole class, half class, and individual repetition of the phrase ... Me llamo (correct
pronunciation at this stage), Use ¿? as a question cue on the board, and repeat the
question,
¿Cómo te llamas? Followed by whole class, half class, and individual
repetition.
Practice: (2 minutes)
I will approach another student and introduce myself. Buenos días. Me llamo ...
¿Cómo te llamas? If model is successful, I will repeat it again with the same person.
If not, I will go to another and repeat the introduction/question and then return to
the first person until the model is clearly established.
Once the model is established, I will indicate via hand signals that another pair of
students is to greet and introduce themselves to reinforce the previous model. At
this time I will introduce one more phrase,
Encantado/Encantada (Pleased to meet
you) indicating that Encantado is used by males and Encantada by females.
Application/ Assessment: (1 minute)
Students are now invited to greet other students in the class and introduce
themselves, and take leave. Were they able to do so successfully with a variety of
partners?
