What's available at OSU?

There are many computer labs on campus, most of them run the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Lab sites and phone numbers are listed in many places including The Lantern and the OIT Web site oit.osu.edu. The hours of the labs vary as well. The most convenient OIT lab for most foreign language graduate students is 171 Hagerty Hall (292-0743). Check out the OIT Web site for further information and services.

OIT is the organizing unit for OSU email (electronic mail) and you must access their Web site to get signed up. The email service at OSU is free and can be accessed at home through www. osu.edu, click on "webmail." This service is invaluable and you will probably find it an absolute necessity!

OIT is the technical support office for the multimedia rooms many of you will teach in during the year. They have "help-line" phone numbers you can use to access their services. If you need help with email or services that effect your personal needs only, the number is 8-HELP (688-4357). If you are teaching and having trouble with anything technical -- from lights to computers -- call 4-HELP (294-4357). Most buildings have a campus phone available. Take some time to explore the OIT Web site for other services they offer.

Arts & Humanities Information Technology (AHIT)

AHIT offers computer and technical assistance to the faculty, staff and graduate students employed by the College of Humanities. They are responsible for maintaining the Humanities Network. The network allows all Humanities users to store, access, and share materials and software within its server system. In addition, by getting a Humanities account, you will also be put into the COH People database and receive your own personal Web site. Not everyone needs to become a network user, but if you find you need to be on the network, the Humanities Information Systems Web site is where you sign up -- http://artsandhumanities.osu.edu/IT/help.cfm

Hagerty Hall is one of the sites of the Humanities graduate computing labs. It is located in room 376. For further information including access and lab policies, please go to: http://his.osu.edu/service/docs/gradlab.pdf [PDF]
