Additional Information for International TAs
Special Schedule for International Students
When you arrive:
All international students must stop by the Office of International Education (OIA), Oxley Hall (292-6101) to meet with a staff member who will assist you with health matters, housing concerns, and visa and passport issues. (Bring all passport, visa, and/or immigration documents.) At this time you will also be able to pick up your registration worksheet for autumn quarter. If you cannot do this before the workshop begins, you can do it between 3:30-5:00 pm.

Beginning of the 801 TA training course
Wednesday, Sept 3
8:15-9:15 am: International TAs from East Asian Languages &Literatures take the SPEAK test (a test of spoken English) in 120 Hagerty Hall. You will thus be a little late for the microteaching that morning. Results of the test will be
available Tuesday, September 9, from 12-1:30 pm in Arps Hall 075.
Thursday, Sept 4
8:15-9:15 am: International TAs from the Departments of French/Italian &Spanish/Portuguese take the SPEAK test in 120 Hagerty Hall. You will thus be a little late for the microteaching that morning. Results of the test will be available

Friday, Sept 5
Friday, Sept 8: 8:15-9:15 am: International TAs from
all other departments take the SPEAK test in 120 Hagerty Hall. You will thus be a little late for the microteaching that morning. Results of the test will be
available Tuesday, September 9, from 12-1:30 pm in Arps Hall 075.
3:00 pm:
all international students take the mandatory English Composition Placement test in 173 Arps Hall
if they have not done so previously. Please arrive 10 minutes early and bring a photo ID. See the list of exemptions below. ESL Composition: 292-6360.
Wednesday, Sept 10
Mock Teaching Tests will be given for those International Students whose scores on the SPEAK tests require it. They will be given in Arps Hall 193 at a time to be arranged. You will be contacted if you need to take this test.
Wednesday, Sept 24
OSU classes begin.
Reminder:
Regarding temporary and permanent housing both on and off campus, or any other questions or concerns, international GTAs may consult the OIA (292-6101).
Exempted from Post-Admission ESL Composition Placement Test Requirement
-
Those who score on the paper-based TOEFL: 650 or higher -or- 610 or higher and 5.0 on the Test of Written English (TWE);
-
Those who score on the computer-based TOEFL: 280 or higher - or - 253 or higher and 5.0 on the TOEFL Essay;
-
Those who score on the MELAB: 95 or higher -or- 90 or higher and 90 on the writing subscore;
-
Those who have been previously enrolled in an Ohio State academic program;
-
Those who are citizens of the following countries or regions: Australia, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, Liberia, United Kingdom (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland), The Commonwealth Caribbean, and the United States.
