Host of the US/China Links 2002 2nd-year Chinese summer program, Qingdao University is a leading University in Shandong Province. 5-Department of East Asian Languages And Literatures, Ohio State University The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) at The Ohio State University is one of the largest programs of its kind in the continental US and offers both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Chinese and Japanese. Students can focus on literature, linguistics, or language pedagogy as fields of specialization. Undergraduate majors in Chinese and Japanese are also offered as well as courses in Korean culture and language. The undergraduate language programs offer one of the most extensive and diverse curricula in the country. The OSU DEALL offers an extremely diverse faculty engaged in the study of traditional fields through cutting edge research in pedagogy, computer applications to language, linguistics, literature, and cultural studies. The DEALL has an extensive web page with links to a multitude of China related resources and a detailed description of its programs and faculty.
The Ohio State University 6-East Asian Studies Center, Ohio State University The East Asian Studies Program was established in 1969 and designated as a Center of Excellence in 1986 by the Ohio Board of Regents' Academic Challenge Program. The program's mission is to coordinate the University's area studies and language instruction, develop and expand research opportunities and library resources, and organize visiting scholar and outreach programs related to East Asian Studies. The EASC, one of eleven National Resource Centers designated by the US Department of Education, maintains an extensive East Asian library, and administers numerous fellowship and exchange programs. Undergraduate and graduate programs are both offered by OSU's East Asian Studies Program which is administered by a staff including Julia Andrews, Director, EASC; Bradley M. Richardson, Director, Institute for Japanese Studies; Owen Hagovsky, Assistant Director, EASC; and Amy Weir-Ginnan, Assistant to the Director of the Institute for Japanese Studies. The Ohio State University The history of Ocean University of Qingdao is traced back to October 25, 1924 when it was first set up on the present campus as the Private Qingdao University. In May 1930, the Private Qingdao University and the Provincial Shandong University merged and became the National Qingdao University. In March 1951, the National Shandong Universtiy and East China University merged and was renamed Shandong University. In October, 1958, Shandong University moved to Ji'nan and the remaining departments in Qingdao, approved by the CPC Central Committee, formed Shandong College of Oceanology in March, 1959. The newly established Shandong College of Oceanology was China's only higher learning institution featuring marine and fishery sciences and was immediately listed among the key higher learning institutions directly under the Education Ministry. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the CPC in 1978, the College entered a new period of development and gradually became a comprehensive university. With the main focus areas still marine and fishery sciences, the university added programs in engineering, agronomy (fishery), medical science (pharmaceutics), liberal arts, philosophy and economics. In January, 1988, it was renamed Ocean University of Qingdao. Yantai University was home to US/China Links at the beginning of its inception. Located in Yantai, Shandong, YTU is one of the few universities in China to be located directly on a seashore. |
